This is my 18th year in First Grade. I am proud to say that I have witnessed and been apart of many phases of growth, development, and change we have experienced here at Minor Community School. I have served on several committees and initiated programs to ensure that our students continue to thrive through high expectations from a loving, nurturing staff. We are committed to making sure that our children have the best opportunities in this competitive world all while becoming productive members of society. They ARE our future.
My name is LaTanya Harris but most remember me as LaTanya Smith. I am a proud Wenonah Dragon, ASU Hornet, UAB Blazer, Auburn Tiger fan, and child of God. I love music, singing in the choir, dancing, watching tv, traveling, spending time with my family, cooking, writing, reading, learning, and laughing. I LOVE my job and am known to most as a workaholic. I believe NO child is unreachable. I love getting to know and working with new parents and students. I especially like getting siblings. One of my favorite days of the year is the first day of school. I love to see students grow, blossom, mature, and get excited about learning. Although every child's light bulb comes on at different times, you can always continue to progress if you have a winning attitude. First Grade is the most IMPORTANT grade of a child's life. Can't is NOT in my vocabulary, there is no such thing as a dumb question, and there is nothing I won't do to help a child learn. It's a humbling experience when a child comes back to say "Thank you"! My philosophy is: Live, Laugh, Love, don't sweat the small stuff, The Golden Rule, and time is meant to be treasured. Some of the nicest people I know are children. There is NO limit to what they can achieve with the proper guidance.
